Built in 1629 by a Tang dynasty buddhist monk called Chonen, it is the oldest chinese style temple in Japan. It is a treasure trove of cultural assets that have received as many as 20 national treasure awards.
Nagasaki’s chinatown is as famous as those in Yokohama and Kobe. There are about 40 chinese restaurants, chinese sweet shops and chinese goods shops all lined up along the street.
Completed in 1865, this is currently the oldest church in Japan. It offers the chance to catch a glimpse of a medieval european gothic building.
Made up of 6 restored and reconstructed Meiji period western style houses that existed in various locations within the city. It is popular not only for this, but also as a spot with a view of both Nagasaki city and Nagasaki harbor.
Constructed in 1893 by the Chinese Qing dynasty government and overseas Chinese merchants, the Confucious shrine contains many Confucian artifacts. In the Historical Museum of China there are exhibits including cultural assets from the court of the Beijing Palace museum.
The period from the bombing up to the present day, from Nagasaki’s restoration to the longing for peace without nuclear weapons, is presented in the form of a story that conveys the horror of the bombing.
Split into 5 zones including “wishes”, “prayers” and “study”, this is a place where your desire for world peace can grow.
Urakami Cathedral was constructed in 1914, damaged by the atomic bomb, and then rebuilt in 1959. Along the route to the cathedral there are stone statues, etc., that are remnants from the bombing.
